Fried Green Tomatoes Recipes

Ingredients :

self raising flour

cornmeal (polenta)

egg, lightly beaten


green tomatoes

Method :
  1. Combine the self raising flour and cornmeal in a bowl.
  2. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Place the beaten egg and buttermilk in a separate bowl and whisk to combine.
  4. Cut the tomatoes into 1 cm (1/2 inch) slices.
  5. Dip the tomato slices into the egg and buttermilk mixture, then toss in the flour mixture to coat.
  6. Shake off any excess flour.
  7. Heat 2 cm oil in a large heavy based frying pan.
  8. Cook the tomatoes in batches over high heat until crisp and golden brown on paper towels.

Serves 4

Preparation : 10 minutes

Cooking : 20 minutes
