Spicy Bengal Gram Cooking Recipes

Ingredients :

bengal gram (chana), split

water

bay leaf

cinnamon (daalchini) stick

butter

onions, chopped

garam masala

ginger paste

garlic paste

tomatoes, skinned and chopped

green coriander, chopped

salt to taste

Method :
  1. Clean the gram, wash in water 3 or 4 times and soak for 30 minutes in a bowl of water.
  2. Boil water in a saucepan.
  3. Add bay leaf, cinnamon stick and the drained gram, bring to a slow boil.
  4. Remove the scum from the top of the pan and simmer until the gram is completely cooked.
  5. Discard the bay leaf and cinnamon stick.
  6. Heat butter in a pan and sauté the onions till they are soft and golden.
  7. Add the garam masala, ginger garlic pastes and sauté over medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add the tomatoes, cooked gram and salt, cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with green coriander.
