Naan Recipes

Ingredients :

500g flour

salt to taste

1g baking soda

5g baking powder

1 egg

10g sugar

50ml milk

25ml clarified butter (ghee) or oil

3g onion (kalonji) seeds

5g melon (magaz) seeds

Method :
  1. Sieve the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder into a bowl.
  2. Add enough water to make a hard dough.
  3. Whisk egg, sugar and milk in a bowl and knead into the dough to make it soft and smooth.
  4. Cover with moist cloth, keep aside for 10 minutes.
  5. Add oil, knead and punch the dough, cover again with moist cloth, keep aside for 2 hours to allow the dough to rise.
  6. Heat the oven to 350F.
  7. Divide the dough into 6 balls and place on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Sprinkle onion and melon seeds, flatten the balls slightly, cover and keep aside for 5 minutes.
  9. Flatten each ball between the palms to make a round disc, then stretch on one side to form an elongated oval.
  10. Place on a greased baking tray and bake for 2-3 min.
  11. Serve hot.
