Whole Grain Pastry Recipes

Ingredients :

1 cup rye meal flour

1/2 cup rice bran

2 tbsp whole milk powder

1 tbsp barley flour

1/2 tsp salt

60 g ice cold butter or margarine

2 tsp baking powder

1 egg

2 tbsp cold water

Method :
  1. This quantity is enough to make a 23cm (9") open pie with plenty left of r decorations; it will make 18 open house poppy snacks, 12 three deckers or 18 Spinoffs.
  2. Double ingredients for covered pies.
  3. Put all dry ingredients in a bowl and cut in butter.
  4. Mix in baking powder, then egg, and finally water.
  5. Do not be tempted to increase the water unless you are positive the mixture all not roll.
  6. Turn on to a floured sheet of baking paper or lunch wrapping, roll and cut.
  7. Rye meal pastry is sticky and breaks easily.
  8. Persevere; the results are wonderful.
