Brussels Sprouts and Chestnuts Recipes

Ingredients :

1kg Brussels sprouts

about 450ml water or chicken stock

25g butter

225g chestnuts, rinsed and drained

salt, optional and freshly ground black pepper

Method :
  1. Cut a slice from the base of each Brussels sprout.
  2. Cut a cross in the base of large ones so that they cook evenly, and tear off the outer leaves.
  3. Place the sprouts in a covered steamer over boiling stock or water.
  4. Cook for 6-8 minutes, according to size, until just tender.
  5. Melt the butter in a frying pan, add the sprouts and chestnuts and stir them carefully over a medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Transfer to a warm serving dish, season, cover with foil and keep warm until ready to serve.

The most traditional vegetable to serve with the Christmas bird.
